Brief description of
the survey: The main objective of the study is to
look in to the various aspects of the indebtedness of the Tribals in the two
districts of Malkangiri and Nawarangpur in Orissa. Assessment of the
Socio-economic status of the Tribals, circumstances responsible for their
indebtedness, study of the profile of the money lenders and their activities
including the interest charged, review of the effectiveness of the laws and
procedures, assessment of the effectiveness of the steps taken by the
Government to cope up with the problem etc., formed part of the details of the
objectives.
